I know it’s Sunday, but I just couldn’t wait any longer to announce this awesome contest. Behold, a mere week or so from now, will kick off the 2008 King Noob SEO Contest! *Crowd cheers and goes wild*

So, what is an SEO contest?

Glad you asked! Basically, at 8pm Central time on February 4th (Monday night), a post will go up here on SEONoobs.Com announcing a keyword or keyphrase that returns ZERO search results. The point of the contest is to build a brand spankin’ new site, and at 8pm Central on March 4th, whoever’s site/blog ranks highest for the said keyword/keyphrase, wins all sorts of fabulous stuff, including a grand prize package worth over $700! (maybe more, who knows!)

I know a lot of folks that visit this blog are pretty new to SEO, so I figured, why not put some of their newly gained SEO knowledge right to work! Not only will you prove to yourself that you can properly SEO a website or blog, but you’ll also have something to stick on your Resume (haha!), not to mention MASSIVE bragging rights, and you’ll walk away with some awesome prizes, which brings me to my next paragraph…

Now, those are some really cool prizes to start with, but I need more. I have no doubt in my mind that some of my blogging and webmaster friends will offer up prizes as part of this contest - wanna know why? By sponsoring this contest (it could be anything from a link, to a review, cash, banner, electronics…whatever), you will get some awesome exposure, a ton of links, and most importantly, you’ll have the privilege of being part of the first of many huge SEO contests to come! It’s very important that we blow this first one out, because down the line when we hold more, they will be bigger, better, and more competitive. I’m so excited about this I could flip out of my seat - but I need to finish typing so I’ll sit down for a bit more!

RULES:

There are some simple rules to this that you must abide by, in order to remain an eligible contestant.

1. The site or blog you start must be BRAND NEW, no cached version, right out of the box. You may use a subdomain or subfolder. All entries will be checked by a few of us prior to the contest start. You may also choose to use a free blogging service like Blogger, Wordpress, or whatever else…just make sure it’s new and has absolutely no backlinks.

2. No cloaking, hidden text, or any of that other blackhat junk. This is a genuine test of your SEO skills, and we surely don’t want any cheaters. I have a very close friend who often wears a blackhat, to check up on any suspicious activities!

3. Mama didn’t raise no fool, so in order to become and remain eligible, your new site/blog must have a link back to this contest post. It can also be in the form of a banner (which is being designed right now, and I’ll post it later).

We have the right to add any additional rules that we may not have expressed at any time in the fair and best interest of the contest.

So, it’s going to be quite interesting to see how many of you enter, not to mention the actual winner. Will someone have the skills to take a Blogger blog to the top? Or will it be a brand new domain name…who knows?!!! You don’t have to be an SEO noob to enter - all are eligible, even your grandmothers!

I’m sure more will be added to this post in the next couple of days, but you have the meat and potatoes of it. Most importantly, even if you’re not to comfortable with SEO yet, I highly encourage you to enter. This will be a fantastic way to get some hands on training, and you’ll learn so, so much in those 30 days that you can take with you for a lifetime - seriously! It doesn’t have to cost you anything, and who knows, we may have a “rookie of the year” on our hands!
